There may be hope, yet... (still no GBB, but hey)

Anyone want to be a guine pig, and report back here?

I found the above links in a discussion here: http://www.maapr.com/virginiaairsoft/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=5008&sid=d81e94444f1d56e36850c359eb369e91

I picked up a few of these as a BD present to myself.

Given the price and description, my expectations were LOW (which turned out to be good.)

Basics: Made in China by Fei Xiang. What you see pictured is what you get.

Pros:
* Very inexpensive
* Magazine release functions
* Trigger functions
* Trigger causes projectile to launch
* Comes with doo-dads
* Electric doo-dads come with batteries installed
* Very quiet
* Bridge mount is contoured to the lines of the toy.
Cons:
* NOT to scale (more like 9/10 scale, good for small hands or to get a feel for what an FsN compact might feel like)
* NOT 100% accurate (compare photos to real USG and notice the variations)
* Springer action (must be racked before each trigger pull)
* Trigger feels like a toy's
* Low velocity
* Supplied 6mm BBs are best discarded
* Probably INNACURATE (5" groups at 3' with the supplied pellets (that I should have tossed) - I have not yet tried premium BBs)
* CHEAP plastic
* Safety does not function
* Slide lock does not function
* Takedown lever does not function
* Sights do not adjust
* Rail is not to spec (I destroyed one after mounting an M6 laser/light that would not detach afterward. The toy gun had to go in order to recover my LAM.)
* Fake suppressor appears to have been modelled after the cleaning kit.
* Painted parts (Fake suppressor) appear to have been boxed too soon after painting.
* CHEAP Doo-dads
* "Reflex" sights are painted, not red-dot. Glue obscures sight.
* "Surefire" modelled single LED light.
* Laser module does not have windage/elevation adjustments

Several models appear to be available, besides the M-86
8603A with laser
8603B with laser and can
8603C with light
8603D with light and can
8603E without doo-dads

Despite all of those negatives, I'm still happy with the purchase. Put another way: I've spent more on a movie ticket and been less happy with the money spent.

How much is shipping? For (2)?

That's one of those "it depends" questions. Why don't you start the order process on two and find out. The shopping cart shouldn't bill you until the very end after it's calculated everything (including shipping) for you.

I bought four (4) and shipping was $7.56 via FedEx to my location. I also found a 5% off cupon to Hobbytron via google that saved a whopping $1.39..

I was thinking of getting some of the cheap airsoft that is 1:1 ratio. I would like to get few that is same as my CCW. It is totally cheaper than those Blue/Orange training firearms for practice.

So far the only Airsoft options for the Five-seveN appear to be the cheap springer that I bought (which is NOT 1:1) the AEG/EBB (which I haven't found a source for yet and might not be to scale either) or custom (which will probably cost more than a real Fives-seveN.)

I also have a resin cast Five-seveN which is 1:1 scale, and weighs about right, but it has no moving parts.

GBB Airsoft pistols will typically run $80-$200 (and up) depending on the manufacturer and quality, so the Blue guns still have a place (but the GBB is superior for training/practice since the operational controls and other gross functions are the same as the real steel that they're modelled after.)

My apologies for the double post.

I ran across this gem just now: http://www.airsoft-news.eu/news.php (photos at that site.)

This does NOT look like an April fool's prank like the last one ( http://fivesevenforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1753 http://chatairsoft.com/blog/archives/191 )

Marushin: FN Five SeveN

http://www.airsoft-news.eu/e107_images/icons/razmak-tran.gif (http://www.airsoft-news.eu/news.php?cat.1)Now this is a pleasant surprise: Marushin announced FN Five Seven, which is supposed to be due sometimes in Spring. Naturally, it will be available in 8mm only. With thanks to Ken.

This link will probably work longer than the first one I posted: http://www.airsoft-news.eu/comment.php?comment.news.803

too bad its a USG and not an IOM.

I guess it makes sense (from Marushin's POV) to start with the USG model and work backwards if there's demonstrated demand for the other models. Parts of the airsoft crowd are complaining about the model chosen as well, and some aren't happy about the assumed use of 8mm BBs (due to cost compared to 6mm BBs.)

Personally, I view even the 8mm airsoft as scads less expensive than training with the real thing.

I _think_ that this is the original leak on the Marushin FsN:

At the risk of looking like I talk to myself...:

It looks like the Marushin product is covered in the June issues of both of the Japanes language magazines: Combat and Arms (and there's a 2 page ad in Arms. ) Thanks to forum member, Mattitude, for pointing this out to me.

It also appears as though a version in 6mm will be offered. :D

Still nothing on http://www.marushin-kk.co.jp/ though.

Again, my apologies for the triple post.
