China sets gun amnesty deadline
Chinese police officials have issued a deadline for people to hand over any illegal firearms as part of a nationwide crackdown on guns.
The Beijing public security bureau warned offenders could face up to two years in jail after 15 July.
Anyone who hands in a gun before then will not be prosecuted.
Even toy guns are not immune to the gun amnesty, as they could be considered a threat and cause human injury, a police official told state media.
Figures issued by the bureau showed about 100 guns were confiscated last month in the capital and 98 people were taken into custody, the China Daily newspaper reported.
Ten of them will face criminal charges, police said.
Last month, a crime wave in poorer areas was being fuelled by the illegal manufacture and sale of weapons, it said.
