ATLANTA - A group of robbers in Atlanta picked the wrong victim.

Police say former Marine Thomas Autry fought off four attackers on Monday night with a pocket knife. They say he killed one and seriously wounded another.

Detective Danny Stephens said Autry was walking home from his waiter job when attackers armed with a shotgun and a pistol chased him. The detective said Autry pulled the knife out of his backpack when the group caught him.Stephens said the 36-year-old’s “training kicked in and he knew what to do.” He kicked the shotgun out of one attacker’s hands and stabbed a 17-year-old girl who jumped on him, as well as a man who also attacked.

The suspects fled, but police said they found them at a hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead.

Stephens said they face robbery and aggravated assault charges and are suspected in other robberies over the past week. Autry will not be charged

Who brings a knife to a gunfight...? Apparently in this instance, the winner.

Just goes to show all the cowardly BG's out there that even if they outnumber an apparently unarmed victim, the tables can be turned on them. I hope it gives all the yellow bellied curs out there some stomace acid. I also hope this poor guy can sleep at night. No matter if you are in the right, you are still left with the thoughts of "what if" and such. God bless him, and GOD BLESS THE MARINE CORPS!

MO, that is almost exactly what he said in the video interview I saw. When the reporter mentioned to him, if it was correct he was free and no charges were pending, he said that he wasn't free. He had to live with the memory of killing someone, even if it was in self defense.

It was a video news clip on AOL.com. I tried looking up, but couldn't find it. If I remember correctly, is was a CNN News Clip. You may be able to find it on their website. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Thanks Kamo. I couldn't find it again. Watch the video attached to the article. It shows what this Marine is made of.

Shows what he is made of, and it also shows that he is a normal person that will be deeply affected by having had killed someone in self defense - especially since he killed her with a knife. I respect him all the more for not coming off as gung-ho.

madoc, That is exactly what I was talking about. He didn't come off as the bad a-- Marine. He showed sincere remorse. He won, but he lost something also.
