Does RCBS have a 5.7 holder for there shell trimmer?
I herd they were coming out with one but don't know when.

RCBS is now shipping the Trim Pro shell holder, #45, for the 5.7. The number corresponds with the press shell holder. Midway and Mid-South aren't stocking yet, but a direct call to RCBS will get you one...

I will have to do that.
Thanks

Just talked to RCBS. I was misinformed a few weeks ago. The Trim Pro #45 shell holder is non-existant. The tech explained that the 5.7 base is too small for the tooling or stock. There are no plans to make one. Also, checked on the .25 ACP as a cross fit. Doesn't exist either..

Anybody have advise on what to trimmer to use for the 5.7?

I use a Lyman universal case trimmer which doesn't require a shell holder. It has a universal chuck which works with cases from 22 to 45.

Midway has had LEE make a special run of their case length guage and shell holder to go with their cutter and lockstud setup, and they are due in any day now.

I just UPS'd my RCBS Trim Pro back to Midway today in exchange for the Lyman Universal Trimmer as recommended by Rnelson11--I had to post-pone reloading this weekend since I couldn't trim cases. According to Midway, RCBS doesn't have the shellholder for a 5.7.

Frustrating....

the chuck arrangement in the Lyman universal isnt perfect either , unfortunately...I have one of those because that is what came with my T-Mag press. works good for the full size stuff I normally load....but will only grab the rim of a 5.7 with one or two of the three retainers..sometimes it holds/sometimes it dont. Clearly a better widget is needed....same for the hand priming deptment as well.

I agree the Lyman isn't perfict but it will do the job. Occasionally I have to hold the case with my right hand to prevent it from turning with the cutter but it works on obout 95% with no prblem. I do run the pilot into the case and rotate it as I tighten the chuck to help center the case.

I made one for myself, and another member here. They are pretty easy to do. I can make some more if you like....

I also made a #45 shell holder for my Trim Pro. It's an aluminum prototype that's kind of rough because I only have a drill press (no mill). But hey, it works. I would be interested in a more durable (steel) shell holder. I have a detailed sketch if interested.

BTW: talked to RCBS, again. They're not making the #45 size because the production blank already has a slotted hole bigger than the 5.7 base dimension of .260"

the Hornady cam lock trimmer uses regular shell holders(same as you use in your press)
which is a shellholder #37 in Hornady brand specifically for the 5.7x 28mm

I have been using the #12 shellholder with my trim pro. It isn't a perfect fit but it is usable if you are carefull and not in a hurry.
