View Full Version : Case capacity for 5.7?

I'm researching this cartridge in anticipation of the PS90 release.

Can anyone tell me the case capacity of 5.7 X 28mm?

I am trying to find data so that I can use Load from a Disk to get some idea of starting loads. I am thinking that with a 16" barrel the PS90 may benefit from using slower powders.

Found one reference off of Steves 57 blog http://stevesfn57.blogspot.com/ that lists the capacity to be 10.5 g of water.

Somehow when I moved I lost Load from a Disk, and I doubt I will be paying the $60 they are asking to replace it.

I came up with 13.1 grains of water. Although the data on Ammo guide shows 14 grains. I took one of my cases, weighed it, then filled it with water, and again weighed it....

Thank you for checking and posting the information.

Just to mess things up some more, I wound up with 12.4 grains water (resized case) and 12.8 (fired case). Quickload says 12.34. I think Ammoguide is way off.

The 10.5 grain capacity that I came up with was from an unfired case (SS192). I pulled the bullet, dumped the powder, weiged the cartridge (with primer intact), weighed it after filling it level to the rim (not bulging) with tap water, and did some simple math.

I think that Ammoguide probably used the case capacity estimator function to get its number.
